3.4 Sample Converted 5250 application

This section illustrates the way the 5250 screens of the sample application, shown in the previous section, are converted for the iWEB Runtime.

When you logon with user profile IWEBDEMO (see Figure 03-05), the initial menu (compare with Figure 03-06) comes up as follow:

About the Runtime Toolbar - The toolbar at the top of the applet page, contains five items:

  • The first opens a pull down, where you can select one of the styles to be used in the applet generated page.
It is suggested that you select a style at the beginning of a session and that you keep it throughout the entire session.
  • The second opens a pull down that would let you select one of the national languages supported from the applet.
  • The third would start the "iExplore" utility in a new window.
  • The fourth should be used to manage job printouts. Avoid to press it until some printout has been generated from the job.
  • The fifth display the current Runtime applet release.

About Menus
  • Menus are always displayed in a window starting from the top left corner.
  • Menu items are displayed as leaves of a tree branch.
  • Nested menus are displayed as branches of a tree.
  • Double click on a menu item to select it.

If you double click on "Boat demo", the "Search criteria" screen (see Figure 03-07) is redesigned in the following applet page:

About the response time - The internal response time of this transaction on the iSeries server is shown
in the top right corner of the toolbar.
This response time, measured in seconds, is a significant part of the total response time
and may provide fair indications on the speed of the iWEB Runtime on your iSeries.
About the using the right mouse - Right click on the first input field ("boat type"):
  • a small image overlays the current image
  • left click on it
  • the selection list in Figure 03-14 shows up in a window

The following is the selection list, rebuilt by Runtime,
to match the 5250 selection list in Figure 03-08 :

  • red square The small red square at the left bottom corner of a subfile, means that the subfile was fully loaded.
  • Use the scroll bar to scroll down or up the subfile lines

Select with any character the type of boat and press the Enter button or key.

  • The scroll bar is missing, as all the subfile lines are already displayed.
About subfile columns - Some temporary effects you can obtain with subfile columns:

A small tag header tag appears in the column header showing the ordering sequence.
  • Click on the boundary of a column header and drag left or righ to reduce / enlarge the size of the column.
  • Click on the header of a column and drag the column in the desired position.
About spool file support - Press F6 key or button to generate a spool file from the subfile.
Spool file support is discussed in the next section.
