2.B Converter Wizard

The iWEB Converter is the module in charge for giving 5250 applications the ability to run also in WEB mode.

To perform such conversion, iWEB needs the sources of programs, display files, menus, and panel groups be available. However, the sources are just read, they are not changed. Therefore there is no need to duplicate the original sources. Indeed, duplicating objects and sources and submitting to conversion the clonies, instead of the original pieces, results to a lot of manual interventions (the reason of this will be soon explained). It is highly recommended to submit to conversion the original objects.

Conversion is a two stage process:
  1. An initial Graphical WEB Conversion Session (GWCS) collects the user inputs and makes sure that all the pieces needed for conversion are made available to the process
  2. When all the information needed has been collected, a batch job is submitted. This batch job, the Batch Converter, performs the conversion duties. The Batch Converter maintains a detailed log of the process, in such a way that the Graphical WEB Conversion Session (GWCS) can display the process trace.

From this point on, we shall proceed by showing examples and by providing some little theory to back up evidence.
